MARCH 19, 2017 PHOENIX, AZ- Ryan Newman has his first Cup Win since joining Richard Childress Racing in 2013 and 18th overall.

Its been 127 races for Newman since his last trip to victory lane and also broke the drought for Richard Childress racing since Kevin Harvick won at the same track in 2013.C.

Newman team made a risky call at the end of the race, staying out on old tires which paid huge for Newman. ” I’ve won more races on no tires than I have with Four,” said Newman.

“I am just proud of these guys. We had a good car all day.  We kept it out of trouble and collected in the end.”

The 312 lap race was split into 3 phases who were all led by different drivers, of which none were Newman.  Kyle Busch was the dominant force in the final stage but was stuck inside after a blow out by Joey Lagano of the #22 car.f. Most interesting after last weeks tangle between Busch and Lagano.

Newman took off on the green-white-checkered restart and held off Kyle Larson, who finished second for the third race in a row.  Busch, who had to start in fifth after nearly running into the car driven by his brother, Kurt, while pulling out on pit road, was able to drive up to third but could get no higher.

Logano started from the pole and led 47 of the first 48 laps and cruised to the Stage 1 win.

But Chase Elliott passed Logano early in Stage 2 and then led nearly all of that 75-lap segment to take the second stage win.

By the time 30 laps remained in the race, though, Busch was in control of the lead – and both Logano and Elliott had faded.

Overall, Elliott led 103 laps and Logano led 82. But as often is the case at the 1-mile track, the brakes in their two cars started giving them problems down the stretch.p.

Nascar teams have several cars and often, when a team wins at a particular race, its because they have a car set up for that race that they either keep separate or record each tweak for next year. B. In a sport where after 4 hours of 175+ Mph, it comes down to inches, everything counts.
